Operator seed. Shared packet and soil lot weaken simple lot-only explanations. Sun and watering differ together, so the 8/20 versus 1/20 contrast cannot separate heat from moisture. Matched moisture/temperature observations or a crossed small trial could discriminate. No causal conclusion yet.

Supplied fixture facts: Nursery fixture: east bench lost 8/20 seedlings; west lost 1/20. Both benches used the same seed packet and soil lot. East received afternoon sun and was watered once daily; west was shaded and watered twice daily. No soil moisture or temperature was measured.
